press play: treasure island

"where there's music and there's people...who are young and alive..."
- the smiths

{treasure island at sunset}

music - in any & every shape and shade - never fails to make my heart beat a little faster and eyes shine a little brighter. it's our antidote to those gray days. it's the soundtrack of our wild adventures. and it connects us through sweet lyrics and even sweeter melodies.

so naturally, when a music festival rolls into our glittering city by the bay, it's the happiest of days. and this past weekend's picture perfect treasure island music festival was no exception.

it was a slowed down version of outside lands....with a diy tent {we made friendship bracelets}, hula hoop dancers, a fantastic silent disco {everyone dances around wearing wireless headphones connected to the dj booth!} and an endless stretch of grass to lay, listen and soak in the sun.

beach house had us swaying in the sunset, explosions in the sky took us to the stars, friendly fires were dance fantastic & death cab for cutie filled the air with heavenly goodness.

and as a little memory of this magical sunday afternoon, i have this gift for you - a little mixtape of some of these sunny moments + a few current faves woven in between...

now it's your turn - what's on your mixtape this week?

window shop diaries: by dana {what the frock?!}

"buy, buy, buy says the sign in the shop window."
-paul mc cartney

hey friends!

i'm lucky to have such fashion savvy friends {that includes all of you!}. and as we welcome back our cozy, toasty autumn outfits back into our closets and daydream of marvelous marled sweaters and luxe leather riding boots, i thought it's be fun to have one of my favorite fashion blog friends - dana from what the frock?! - inspire us with what she's been dreaming of this season.

happy window shopping!

hi there! i'm dana from what the frock?! i met syl on weddingbee (she's mrs. ostrich, I'm ms. sloth), and i'm so excited that she's letting me guest post on silver lining!

in the past few months, the mister and i bought a house, got married, and went on a big honeymoon. the result?

we're broke.

well, not really, but all of our spending money has been going towards replenishing our savings account. this means that i'm not really shopping right now. and it's breaking my heart, because i love to shop. but that doesn't mean that i can't window shop, or at least do the digital version of window shopping, a.k.a. scouring the web for my favorites and drooling on my laptop keyboard. so here's what i'm jonesing for this fall. i can look all i want, i just can't touch!

:: my fall wishlist ::
by dana of what the frock?

earrings: house of harlow // sunglasses: ray-ban // bag, kooba // jeans: levis // blouse: anthropologie // boots: jessica simpson

now i'd love to hear from all of you....what's on your wishlist for fall?

press play: :"countdown" by 60s chic beyonce

"there's ups and downs in this love;
got a lot to learn in this love...
through the good and the bad, still got love;
dedicated to the one i love..."
- beyonce

{via stereogum}

happy monday, kids!

this post will be short but full of sweet.

this past weekend i may have watched beyonce's hot off the press, 60's inspired music video, "countdown," oh i don't know...maybe 25 times? the terrific technicolors, marvelous mod styling and cool choreography reminded me of my favorite 60's french film, "les parapluies de cherbourg," {the umbrellas of cherbourg}. which translates to = i truly, madly, deeply adore.

every outfit is amazing...the primary hued leotards with bold striped sunhats, breezy oversized shirts in the prettiest pastels, superchic black with a dash of leopard and those dreamy dance class ensembles. heavenly all around.

and if that wasn't enough? this colorful masterpiece was directed by tom petty's visionary daughter, adria petty. bravo, girl.

i can't think of a better way to kick of a new week than with this marvelous music video. it's 3 minutes of pure delight....and it'll be my go to groove all this week. :)

friends, what was your favorite part of "countdown?" i'm dying to know!

weekend wish

"i was given just one wish...it's about you and the sun...a morning run"

{via acasavada}

who says it has to be your birthday to make a wish?

as we begin this much needed weekend, i'll be wishing for a morning with spiced apple waffles, a sunny afternoon on the tennis courts and an evening filled with salted caramel brownies, too much laughter and the people i adore. and a few cozy hours in between.

and i'll be wishing for an equally blissful experience for each and every one of you. :)

friends, what sweet wishes do you have in your heart for this weekend? i'd love to hear all of them!

here's to these wishes...and a wonderful weekend.

{via houzz}

hey friends,

i'm over the moon excited to have my wonderful friend, morgan, visit us today to share one of her dazzling d.i.y adventures. this one made me beam and do a happy dance, it's that fantastic!

have fun!

d.i.y: chevron mani pedi
morgan of the handcrafted life

hi there everyone! my name is morgan, and normally you'll find me over at the handcrafted life, blogging about home decor, fashion and travel.

but today i'm excited to be guest posting here on silver lining, and sharing two of my favorite things: diy and fashion!

chevron. it's everywhere these days; sneaking into home decorator fabrics, on walls, and especially now with the missoni for target craze, chevron patterns are showing up more and more on clothes and accessories. but i'm not one to jump right on trends, especially when they involve spending a lot of money on clothes, when my husband and i are saving up to buy our first house next year. so i came up with a cheap and easy way to get my chevron fix by diy'ing chevron patterns on my nails.

so sit back and relax with a couple of bottles of nail polish, a roll of blue painter's tape,
scissors, and follow these easy steps to get the look for yourself!
