for keeps

"these gems have life in them: their colors speak, say what words fail of."

{via everything fab}

when i was a little girl, one of my fondest memories was the birthday i received my first jewelry box. it was soft white enveloped in gold paisley swirls and when you opened it, you discovered a sweet blush velvet interior, a delicate ballerina and magical melodies.

i oohed and ahhed for days, i think. long enough for my mom to figure out my new found love affair with jewelry boxes. and since that day, she has fueled this delight with a family of whimsical jewelry boxes, bowls and trays to mark new milestones in my life.

so as i wander through the wonderful worlds of vintage shops and all things etsy, my heart always skips a beat when i find a new, charming jewelry keeper.

and earlier this summer, when i stumbled upon the dreamy shop of paloma's nest, my heart did just that. skip, skip, skip.

paloma's nest creates dreamy ceramic bowls etched with words and quotes that fill your heart with joy, love, hope and all those other warm and fuzzy feelings.  her custom requests are super popular for your special day and celebrations of every sort. and, for your brides-to-be, her ring bearer bowl series is a refreshing alternative to the classic pillow.

and so i bought one to call my very own. i couldn't help myself. and how could i? it is hopelessly romantic with a literary nod to one of my favorite poems, "i carry your heart," by e.e cummings.

"i carry your heart"

" i carry your heart with me
(i carry it in my heart)
i am never without it
(anywhere i go you go,my dear; and whatever is done by only me is your doing,my darling)
i fear no fate
(for you are my fate,my sweet)
i want no world
(for beautiful you are my world,my true)
and it's you are whatever a moon has always meant and whatever a sun will always sing is you

here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud and the sky of the sky of a tree called life;
which grows higher than the soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart

i carry your heart
(i carry it in my heart)"

- e.e. cummings

i am especially enamored with the tiny ceramic heart token that floats in this jewelry dish. and being a tradition redefining bride-to-be, we are using this as our ring holder for our special day.

here's to making our hearts skip a beat.

and thank you, mom, for filling me with all the warm, fuzzy feelings a girl could dream of.

this one's for you.

xo,
s
